Transition Instructions
Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.
Transition Day | Current Diet | New Diet |
---|---|---|
Days 1-2 | 75% | 25% |
Days 3-4 | 50% | 50% |
Days 5-6 | 25% | 75% |
Day 7 | 0% | 100% |
Why should I buy veterinary diets from Chewy?
We offer competitive prices and free shipping on orders over $49. Plus, you'll save more if you sign up for automatic refills with Autoship at Checkout. Chewy experts are available 24/7 to answer any questions you have.
How do I order veterinary diets?
- Search for the diet your veterinarian recommends and add it to your cart. You can purchase your veterinary diets along with any other items you need.
- At Checkout, you'll be asked for your pet's name and veterinary clinic information so we can confirm that the item is authorized by your veterinarian.
- Place your order and we'll take care of contacting your veterinarian. If you have a copy of your authorization, you can expedite the process by uploading a scan or photo of it to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
If your clinic needs more information from you or recommends a different diet, we'll let you know immediately.
I have a copy of the authorization from my veterinarian. Can I send it to you?
Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?
Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat on Chewy.com, or call us anytime at 1-800-672-4399. We're here for you 24/7.

Cat hates new formula
By CM80 on Nov 5, 2021
This was a great option recommended by my vet. My picky cat really liked this food, and it helped his sensitive tummy. I couldn't figure out why he wasn't eating the last shipment, and then I read that there was a new formula with different ingredients. Sure enough, the latest shipment had the new ingredients. He won't touch this food. Thankfully, my other cat will eat it since her usual food has been unavailable due to supply shortages. I ordered some of the more expensive "naturals" version in hopes that my cat will eat that since it seems to have some similar main ingredients to the original version.

Super Healthy and Helpful
By ChrisL on Nov 13, 2021
My vet recommended Pro Plan EN for Frick's digestive issues. It's made a huge difference in her health and attitude AND she loves it. I thought we were looking at losing her until we started feeding her EN. She's back to her ole (13) self and racing up and down the hall again. Ask your vet! This is great stuff

Purina ProPlan EN canned for cats
By Shepherd on Nov 24, 2021
Our cat Chloe suddenly became very allergic to her regular food. She adapted to the Pro Plan EN food immediately. She's been eating this food for a month and all gastro issues all gone. Highly recommend.

Hemi got put on a diet due to his pancreatitis. We tried several brands before we found her likes this one. I was very happy to see Chewy offered it and had a auto ship discount! You're the best Chewy!

LOVES LOVES LOVES
By DEXTER on Sep 29, 2021
I ORDERED THIS FOR MY CAT THAT LOVES THIS AND HASN'T UPCHUCKED SINCE STARTING ON IT. ITS GREAT FOR THOSE CATS THAT SEEM LIKE THEY CAN'T HOLD DOWN CERTAIN TYPES OF CANNED FOOD. I TRIED QUIET A FEW OF DIFFERENT TYPES WITH NO SUCCESS. HE ALWAYS UPCHUCKED THE FOOD. I ONLY GAVE HIM A HALF TABLESPOON. HE EATS DRY BUT NOT WET. NOW HE HAS NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS AND I CAN FEED HIM A LITTLE MORE.

Helps with stomach issues
By Matt on Oct 21, 2021
One of my cats has gastrointestinal issues on and off. When he does, we feed him this and it seems to help. He loves it, but he does get tired of it and can't eat it as his only food because it comes in only one flavor and we spoil him.

So far so great
By Julia on Oct 3, 2021
Both of my cats love this food. More importantly, my one cat, who has always had digestive issues, has FeCv and diarrhea issues is able to eat this food without a negative impact on his bowels.

We tried, but it's a no go
By Liza on Aug 28, 2021
I tried everything I possibly could, but my little girl wouldn't even go near this! With other wet foods, she has at least tried it once or twice and then snubbed it, but this one she absolutely refused, each and every time. After having to throw away several open and untouched cans, I've given up :(

Sole surviving kitty diet
By JennySue on Aug 17, 2021
Our family abruptly lost one of two sibling cats. The surviving cat was already anxious and this upheaval exacerbated her self-destructive grooming habits, etc. plus her bowels became irregular and often constipated. A new vet put her on the EN formula, and she is now much improved emotionally and healthwise being an only cat. Her diet is now not a concern.

Loves it! Rice left behind
By luneside on Sep 29, 2021
I think the rice in this marvelous food should be softer in texture and cut down in size to mash into the food. My cat seems to think it should be left on her plate, though not always.
